Get the fact about how PIPA as a company operates to drive the industry forward
PIPA functions as an independent organisation led by its Managing Director. The Managing Director is responsible for delivering the annual plan approved by the PIPA Leadership Group, as well as overseeing the day‑to‑day running of the scheme.
The PIPA Office manages daily operations and handles incoming queries. The team supports the Managing Director by coordinating projects, maintaining administrative processes, and ensuring the smooth delivery of PIPA’s services.
Oversight of both the Managing Director and the PIPA Office is provided by the PIPA Leadership Group, ensuring the organisation remains accountable and continues to meet its strategic objectives.
As a 'not for profit' type company, all funds generated by PIPA can only be used to improve the scheme itself, or to help the inflatable leisure industry.
Who We Are
“PIPA” is the Professional Inflatable Play Association. We are a professional association set up to improve standards across the inflatable play and leisure industry in the UK. As a ‘not for profit' organisation, our work connects inflatable play inspectors, operators, organisations and enforcement to ensure standards continue to improve across the industry in the UK and beyond.
What We Do
PIPA’s inspection scheme provides a framework to enable the inspection of inflatable amusement devices and certify inflatable play inspectors as competent to undertake inspections. As part of the framework, an online inspection portal is used to record and publish inspection reports, providing assurance about how inspections are conducted. PIPA verifies that its inspectors remain competent and up to date as it continues to expand on the current safety standards and brings more inflatable amusement devices under the scope of the scheme. PIPA provides training and guidance to members of the industry to promote confidence to members of the public when they use inflatable amusement devices.
Where We Work
Our work is primarily focused in the UK. As the scheme grows, we gain European and International recognition. As a trusted organisation, we provide assistance to worldwide countries about inflatable play safety. PIPA inspectors can be based in any location in the world.
Who We Work WIth
PIPA seeks to work with all members of the industry to improve standards in inflatable play. We have a strong relationship with the Health & Safety Executive in the UK, who were consulted at every stage of PIPA’s inception, and who we continue to work with today. As we continue to grow the scope of the scheme, PIPA is here to work with manufacturers, controllers, operators, local authorities and the public to ensure its work meets the demands of all its stakeholders.
How We Are Governed
The day-to-day activity of PIPA is conducted through the PIPA office. The executive board of PIPA is the PIPA Leadership Group (PLG) who are an elected group of members, and co-opted non-members, who are there to hold the PIPA office to account, and ensure the scheme is delivering its objectives.
Accountability and Funding
PIPA is funded through fees levied within PIPA inspections generated through its inspection portal. It also generates funds from training programmes and membership. It is accountable for how these funds are used, which is restricted to developing the scheme and contributing to the leisure industry. Part of the accountability we have in place includes the restriction against payment of dividends to any director or member. As we are entrusted to ensure funds are used appropriately, our accounts are audited and our members are provided with these details each year at the annual general meeting.
My background is as a registered pharmacist. I have worked at many different levels throughout my pharmacy career, including working in various high-street chemists, becoming a prescriber and working in General Practice, to ending up as a pharmacy inspector for the pharmacy regulator, which I continue to do so to this day. These roles have given me a great deal of insight into a range of systems and processes.
As part of my background I was as an inflatable operator in the industry. My company mainly focussed on complete party packages throughout Liverpool, whilst offering individual hire and events. I joined the PIPA Leadership Group in 2022 as I wanted to help drive the industry forward.
In 2023, I created the concept of Project Alpha, to re-invent PIPA by moving the outsourced administrative function to an in-house team, ensure PIPA's governance was aligned to future requirements, and develop the scheme in preparation for its accreditation with UKAS.
I formally took over the position as Managing Director in late 2024. My role is simple - ensure the scheme remains viable, continue to improve the scheme for everyone, and ensure the scheme gives back to the industry to help improve standards.
I’m an organised and approachable Office Administrator with a strong focus on compliance, safety, and supporting people across the inflatable play industry. With a background as a Dental Manager, I bring valuable experience in regulated environments, clear processes, and high standards of care. In my role, I enjoy helping registered PIPA inspectors, assisting with training coordination, and ensuring documentation and audit processes run smoothly. Building positive relationships is important to me, and I take pride in being proactive, reliable, and always happy to help. I’m also family‑focused, which inspires my commitment to creating a safe, well‑supported and fully compliant environment for everyone involved in inflatable play.
